Installation
Our installations are eligible for the Feed in Tariff because we are listed as a transitional installer under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme. We were also accredited installers under the government’s previous system (Clear Skies). In addition, we are members of the REAL assurance scheme.
We have installed around 30 small hydro systems across England, Scotland and Wales. Where a site has suitable designs and permissions we are pleased to quote to supply and install all electro-mechanical elements (turbines, generators, control equipment, etc).
Where we install equipment we provide training and advice and are always available for any queries after installation on the telephone or by email. Clients also have the comfort of a one year warranty, which includes an unlimited number of site visits during that first year after commissioning.
Here are some examples of our recent work:
ALPORT MILL (2009)
Our involvement:
- Detailed design and specification for a new hydro scheme based at a listed historic mill in the Peak District National Park owned by Haddon Estates.
- Successful Environment Agency licensing, planning and grant applications.
- Procurement, installation and commissioning of a large crossflow turbine, control gear and other electro mechanical equipment.
The solution:
The installed crossflow turbine produces 30kW on a head of 4.2m. The annual output is expected to be enough for roughly 70% of Alport village and will save over 100 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year. The turbine is contained within a part buried, disguised turbine house and cannot be heard more than a couple of meters away. The pictures below demonstrate how subtle hydro installations can be.

THURGOLAND (2009)
Our involvement:
- Feasibility and design studies for a new hydropower system at a mill on the River Don, now a residential property (system specified to withstand a repeat of the severe flooding seen on the Don in the summer of 2007).
- Supporting role in the licensing and consenting processes.
- Procurement, installation and commissioning of an Archimedean screw turbine and associated electro mechanical equipment.
The solution:
The installed screw turbine produces 9kW on a head of 3.4m. It is attached to the outside of the house in a former water wheel pit but is quiet enough not to disturb the home owners. The slow motion of a screw turbine means that fish pass through it unharmed and consequently it does not require fine screening of the water supply.
