A member of the British Hydropower Association, serving on its Council for over 14 years, we have a long history of dedication to small scale hydro. Our founder, Jon Needle, is the Association’s current chairman.

Here at Derwent Hydro we have a combination of track record, expertise and experience that we think is hard to beat in small hydropower. Very few in the industry have been in the business for over twenty years as we have. Through that time we have maintained our enthusiasm for delivering practical solutions for hydropower sites in order to see this great renewable resource used to its full potential.

This is a complex task because no two sites are the same and because each site has many issues to consider -  including providing a reliable solution, safeguarding the local environment, protecting fish, maximising power and income and keeping costs low. We have the experience and understanding necessary to look at all the factors together and produce the best possible solutions.

As well as installing and operating our own schemes we work for a variety of people including individuals, estates, businesses, public sector organisations, community groups and charities. Our clients include Derby City Council, the Snowdonia National Park Authority, the National Trust and the Environment Agency.
